Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a form of collaborative conversation for strengthening a person's own motivation and commitment to change, by eliciting and exploring the person's own reasons for change within an atmosphere of acceptance
and compassion. This course takes the learner on a tour of the essential skills used to strengthen an individual’s motivation for behavior change.
This online course was prepared by the University of Missouri Kansas City School of Nursing and Health Studies’ Mid-America Addiction Technology Transfer Center (Mid-America ATTC), under a cooperative agreement from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT) and the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA).
