In Language Access 201: Enhancing your Clinical Encounters, Gabriela Flores from Children’s Mercy Hospitals and Clinics, a Title X sub-recipient, discusses what clinicians need to know about providing health care to patients with limited English proficiency. Resources and case studies are discussed throughout this presentation. Gabriela Flores has over eighteen years’ experience working in the area of language access, diversity and health equity in the Kansas City metropolitan area. Ms. Flores currently serves as the Director for the Office of Equity and Diversity & Language Services at Children’s Mercy Hospitals and Clinics. This course offers 0.5 contact hours.

By the end of this presentation, participants will be able to:

  1. Better identify your patients' cultural and language needs.
  2. Identify tools and resources to help meet those needs.
  3. Analyze case studies in order to identify strategies to address patients' cultural and language needs.
